Psychological Treatment Methods at Colloquy Bridgnorth Shropshire
So what is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. EMDR is a set of standardised protocols that incorporates elements from many different treatment approaches. The main focus of this psychotherapeutic intervention is that of distressing memories, memories that one part of your brain may know to be an ‘old memory’ but another part still gets emotionally distressed and disturbed when they are recalled. EMDR has recently been supported by the World Health Organisation as an effective treatment intervention for both adults and children with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
So what is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is an action-oriented form of psychosocial therapy that assumes that maladaptive, or faulty, thinking patterns cause maladaptive behaviour and “negative” emotions. These mal adaptive behaviours are often so significant that they interfere with a person’s every day level of functioning. CBT treatment focusses upon changing an individual’s thoughts, which are called ‘thought patterns’ so as to then implement effective change in that person’s behaviour and emotional state. CBT is very strongly supported by evidence based research as a highly effective psychological treatment intervention.
So what is Cardiac Coherence Training?
Cardiac Coherence Training is a really effective programme that enables individuals to find a feeling of ease and inner harmony that will be reflected in your body’s heart rhythms. The heart is a primary generator of rhythm in your body, influencing brain processes that control your nervous system, cognitive functioning and levels of emotion. More coherent heart rhythms facilitate brain function, allowing you more access to your higher intelligence so you can improve your focus, creativity, intuition and higher-level decision-making. When you’re in heart-rhythm coherence, you perform at your best – what athletes call being in the zone. You feel confident, positive, focused and calm yet energized (HeartMath, 2013). Treatment involves the use of Bio-feedback which enables us to obtain an individual perspective of your own heart rhythm and how working towards achieving better levels of cardiac coherence can impact of performance, health and well-being.
So what is Performance Enhancement?
Everyday life involves some degree of performance whether this is part of being in a social setting, work environment, personal relationship, or occupational environment. Often what can get in the way of peak performance relates to anxiety and other distressing emotions, negative beliefs about you, fear, over-work, mismatches, or loss of goal, purpose and drive. Psychological intervention can help identify some of the obstacles preventing optimum performance and help you shift your mind towards having a stronger sense of your own abilities and potential. Treatment involves Cardiac Coherence Training, CBT & EMDR which focus upon three elements: ability, focus and motivation.
